A Festival of Lessons & Carols
Welcome to our Festival of Lessons & Carols on December 21, 2014 • 12:30 – 1:30 PM.
Through readings from God’s Holy Word, we will recount the dramatic history of salvation. We will survey the whole panorama of redemptive history from the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2-3, through the promises to the Patriarchs, the Prophets, the Psalms, and to their climactic fulfillment in the Gospels: the Incarnation of the Eternal Word. Finally, we look forward to the return of the God-Man to this earth in Revelation 21-22.
Patterned after Scriptures’ covenantal dialogue between God and his people, God speaks in the Scripture read and briefly explained; then the people respond in songs of praise.
This service is modeled after the Anglican “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” first drawn up for a Christmas Eve service in 1880. This “festival” was later modified in 1918 for King’s College in Cambridge, England. Since then, this service has been adapted for use in Christian churches all over the world.
You can listen live online to the Festival at King’s College on BBC Radio 4 on 24 December at 7:00 AM PST or 10:00 AM EST.
We hope this service causes you to reflect with wonder and awe upon the great significance of the incarnation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to trust in Him alone for salvation, and to look forward with hope to His second coming.
Below is our liturgy.
