Sermon Series: The Church, Existing from the Beginning of the World to the End

In this sermon series, we studied the Biblical, theological and historical aspects of the church, and the metaphorical names used to refer to and symbolize it. We began with the ancient Paradise in creation (Genesis 2), the Garden of Eden, and came full circle to the future Paradise of God in the new heaven and new earth (Revelation 2:7; 22:1-5). “This church has existed from the beginning of the world and will last until the end “(Belgic Confession).

The Surprising Origins of Two Thanksgiving Hymns

It is true that “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come” (1844) has overtones of joy at harvest time. In Stanza 1, the people are exhorted to sing in thankfulness for the harvest “safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin” since “doth provide for our wants to be supplied.” However, the reference to a joyful harvest time ends here. We read in Scriptures that most of them were evil in the sight of the LORD, but a few did what was right and good in the sight of the LORD, and a few others did both good and evil in the sight of the LORD.

At that time, he was preaching in Corinth in Greece during his third and last missionary journey. Paul addresses the tension between Jews and Gentile believers in Rome.

Sermon (April 18, 2021)

We have to know and discern the spirit of truth from the spirit of error. These things have to be proclaimed out in the open, because if we as Christians do not, then, the time will come—and it is already upon us—when even the proclamation of the gospel will be canceled. Even now, churches and Christians are being singled out for persecution and “cancellation.”

Morning Worship Service (April 11, 2021)

God’s word assures us that that we who are true believers “are God’s children now.” However, we still have the sinful nature in us at war against the new righteous nature that the Holy Spirit has given us. So we strive with all our might and the power of the Spirit to live holy, righteous and godly lives in obedience to God’s laws.
